2nd Division I-League: Mumbai City Reserves go down against FC Bengaluru United

Mumbai City FC Reserves succumbed to a late goal scored by Asraf Ali Mondal of FC Bengaluru United to lose their second game of the Hero 2nd Division I-League.

At the commencement of the game, the Islanders got off to a positive start and created certain lucrative opportunities. However, FC Bengaluru United fielded with a very strong intent to win. From the first quarter of the game, they were seen imposing lethal attacks.  Mumbai City were robust in defence and prevented the opponents from scoring till the first half came to an end.

The second half kicked off with both the teams roaring to find the net. An end to end affair saw both Mumbai City and Bengaluru United challenge each other. Mumbai City shot-stopper Vikram Lakhbir pulled off some praiseworthy saves.

As the clock seemingly neared the ending, in the final quarter of the game, exactly at the 81st minute, Bengaluru United was gifted a free-kick from a dangerous position. Bengaluru’s Asraf Ali Mondal, a 22-year-old prospective midfielder, rose to the occasion and took the free-kick. His swirling shot went past the Mumbai wall and kept Vikram at bay. Bengaluru netted their solitary goal of the match which eventually clinched them all three points.

After consecutively losing two matches, the Islanders find themselves at the bottom of the Group-C league table. Mumbai City Reserves are slated to face FC Kerala on their next match. The match starts at 19:30 IST on the 6th of February in the iconic Cooperage Stadium, Mumbai.
