In an exclusive Interview with Footballcounter, Sanchit Singh talks about his short journey so far, his performance in the Nadkarni Cup and his future plans.

Excerpts:

How did your football journey began?

I started playing football when I was in 8th standard, I would play in school games. Soon my interest grew and i started taking the game seriously. Professionally I started playing from last year when I played under Shyam sir for Karnataka Sporting Association. Under him, I improved a lot as a player and I owe it to him that.

How do you feel after winning the tournament?

It was a great experience for me as it was my first Nadkarni cup. Also it feels great to be honoured as the best player of the tournament.

As a striker, do you set targets for yourself about no. of goals to score in a season?

Not exactly, I didn’t set any particular count on goals to score for this tournament but yes I do make sure that I try and score in every game.

Who played a pivotal role in your overall development?

My coaches have played an important role in my development. Even within the team, my teammates, especially the seniors have supported me at every moment.

How do you rate yourself individually and what is your future ambition?

Individually, I need to improve more and stand on my coaches’ expectations. Further I am looking forward to having a great season throughout this year with Air India winning more trophies.

Do you want to stay in Maharashtra or plan to pursue something better?

I aim to grow as a player so If something great comes to me, I would love to go for it even if it means moving outside Maharashtra

You are not in the squad of Maharashtra Team for Santosh trophy, were you expecting your selection and are you disappointed?

Yes, I was hoping that my good showing in Nadkarni Cup will aid in my selection for the Santosh Trophy. However, I am not disappointed. I know I can improve further as a player and I will keep trying for the same.
