India Women’s Team prepared to ‘challenge’ Uzbekistan

The Indian Women’s Football Team is set to face Uzbekistan in their backyard on 30th August and 2nd September. Ahead of tomorrow’s challenge, Head Coach Maymol Rocky labelled the games as a “challenging prospect”.

“The conditions and facilities in Uzbekistan are great. The girls responded well to the practice sessions, and we are all set up,” Maymol informed. “We are expecting a tough match against Uzbekistan. They are a very strong opposition. Coming here and facing them is a challenging prospect as they are ranked higher than us. But I’m sure the girls will give their 100% to pick up a win” quoted the head coach.

Uzbekistan is placed at 44 in FIFA rankings. Whereas, team India is at 57 – getting promoted to 6 places in the chart since July 2019. Both the teams clashed earlier this year in February, at the Turkish Women’s Cup, where Uzbekistan had the last laugh by a solitary goal victory.

Reigning AIFF Women’s Player Of The Year 2018-19 Dangmei Grace expressed that the team is prepared to take up the challenge. “We are pushing our limits, and are keen to improve,” Grace added. “The atmosphere in the team is great. We have been together for a number of months now. We have developed a great understanding amongst ourselves.”

Team India’s recent assignment was in Spain. They concluded at the third position in the COTIF Cup where they faced the likes of Villarreal CF, and the Spanish U-19 National Team. “We fought hard in every game, especially the one against Spain. They are a great team in terms of technique, as well as physicality. We gave it our best effort, and created a number of chances,” said Dangmei. “Looking back, it was a great experience and a massive boost with regard to our preparation for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 qualifiers ” she added.
