The Indian Air Force triumphs over the I-League debutants, TRAU FC

09/08/2019, Howrah Stadium, West Bengal: The 129th edition of the historic competition, the oldest tournament in Asia, and the world’s 3rd oldest tournament, Durand Cup travelled to Calcutta this season. The tournament hosts teams from all corners of the nation. Be it Real Kashmir from the north, or Gokulam Kerala from South, the tournament has invited all the reputed teams from the nation. Today’s fixture hosted the recently promoted I-League debutants TRAU FC against the Indian Air Force at the Howrah Stadium, West Bengal.

As the match commenced, the teams initiated fluid attacks from both sides. With the match intensifying, at the 38th minute, TRAU FC was very close to open their scoring sheet as Princewill Emeka’s effort was ruled out by an offside decision. The half time saw both the teams entering the tunnel on an even note.

The second half commenced with Indian Air Force gaining control over the game. Soon, at the 63rd minute, the Indian Air Force broke the deadlock, as Mohd. Aqib drew the first blood for the team. The Air Force defenders got alert and did pretty well henceforth. They stood robust and restricted the numerous attacks launched by TRAU after conceding. However, the match concluded seeing Indian Air Force having the last laugh. The scoreline displayed 1-0 in favour of the Indian Air Force until the last whistle was blown.

Air Force meet Gokulam Kerala on 14th August, whereas, TRAU FC lock horns against Chennaiyin FC on 16th August, at the Howrah Stadium.
