Air India to play Mumbai Customs in Elite Division final

2nd May 2019, Mumbai: On Thursday, Air India encountered U-Mumbai in a thrilling MDFA Elite Division semi-final encounter at the Neville D’Souza Turf in Bandra. The most anticipating match of the season ended in goalless with Air India edging U-Mumba 12-11 in a never-ending penalty shootout.

Air India will be facing Mumbai Customs in the final on Saturday at the Cooperage Stadium, the same day when MDFA Awards Night 2019 is being held.

U-Mumba had to play with 10 players in the crucial phase of the match when Sagar Khanvilkar was sent-off. Air India’s Shravan Shetty had an outstanding game as he bamboozled Mumba’s defense from the flanks.

Shravan went on to create several opportunities but he was let down by some poor finishing up front. Both the outfits should have won in the normal time itself had not for poor display in the attacking third.

Beside Shravan, his teammate Lokesh displayed a similar performance as he kept attacking from the flanks to keep the pressure on the opponents’ backline.

For U-Mumba, Daniel Muthu had a superb game on the wing. He was lively throughout the game and continuously tracked back as well to defend.

In the penalties, Floyd Dharmai had a golden opportunity to send U-Mumba through but he was denied in what could have been the winning penalty. In the end, Air India held their nerves and edge their counterparts 12-11 to set up a mouth-watering clash against Mumbai Customs on Saturday.
