WCG Rink football: Champions Sacred Heart crash out in 3rd round

Defending champions Sacred Heart ‘A’, Andheri crashed out going down fighting to St. Roque, Vasai by a 1-0 margin in a Men’s third round match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organized 31st Inter-Parish 5-a-side Rink Football Tournament – 2018 for the Victor D’Mello Trophy and played under floodlights at the gymkhana’s tennis courts.

In a tense and well-contsted encounter, striker Sandeep Lopes netted the decisive winner for The Vasai side and sent Sacred Heart out of the competition.

In another match, Our Lady of Victories ‘A’, Mahim got the better of St. Vincent De Paul ‘A’, Khar by a close 3-2 margin. Dion Menezes, Ian D’Souza and Jason Fernandes all scored a goal each for the Mahim parish, while Pratik Kadam scored both the goals for the losers.

Results –

Second round: Our Lady of Victories ‘A’, Mahim 3 (Dion Menezes 1, Ian D’Souza 1, Jason Fernandes 1) beat St. Vincent De Paul ‘A’, Khar 2 (Pratik Kadam 2).

St. Gonsalo Garcia ‘B’, Vasai 3 (Nayan Anil Kavje 2, Ethen Edwin Kallat 1) beat St. Joseph’s ‘C’, Juhu 2 (Lester Creado 2).

Third round: St. Roque, Vasai 1 (Sandeep Lopes 1) beat Sacred Heart ‘A’, Andheri 0.

Open Veterans (1st round): I.C. United 3 (Conrad Correa 3) beat M-10 SC 1 (Munna Khan 1).
