Udaya SC clinch Ramanath Payyade Memorial Football title; defeats KSC 1-0

31st March 2018, Mumbai: The 22nd Shri Late Ramanath Payyade Memorial Football League Tournament 2017-18 concluded on Saturday evening which saw Udaya SC lifting the title after defeating Karnataka Sports Club (KSC) 1-0 at Cross Maidan, Churchgate. A first-half goal by Ashirwad Hedge turned out to be the decisive goal as Udaya SC defended their solitary lead till the final whistle.

Prior to the final between Udaya SC and Karnataka Sports Club (KSC), a third-place match was held which was contested between Mangalore Blues and Satya Vijaya. After both the sides were locked, the match headed towards the penalty shootout where Satya Vijaya edged their counterpart 5-4 to claim the third place.

The final was as eventful as the third-place match. Throughout the game, Udaya SC and Karnataka Sports Club (KSC) both had several chances in front of the goal but it was Ashirwad Hedge’s sublime goal in the first-half which ended up separating both the outfits in the ultimate showdown.

Valentine Pereira and Reshon Sam had a good game for KSC. The killer instinct was missing though which initially came back to haunt them. Captain Oliver Castelinho lifted the trophy for Udaya SC who became the new champions as Mogaveera SC won the last two editions in a commendable fashion.

Best Player – Tushar Poojary (Satya Vijaya)

Best Goalkeeper – Rajesh Bangera (Karnataka Sports Club – KSC)

Best Defender – Aamir Shaikh (Udaya SC)
