MDFA celebrates Women’s day in grand style at Cooperage
11th March 2018, Mumbai: To celebrate Women’s day, MDFA – Mumbai District Football Association successfully organised a playing session for the young and aspiring girls footballers at Cooperage Stadium on Sunday evening. Prominent Football faces in Mumbai such as Henry Picardo, Nagesh Swamy, Sachin Narsappa participated along with the MDFA committee members.
MDFA’s Vice Presidents Sudhakar Rane, Suzzane Chowdhury, Hon. General Secretary Udayan Banerjee, Assistant Secretaries Henry Picardo, Salim Ansari, Executive Committee members Suresh Banjan, Ajit Sawant, AP Rodrigues, took control of more than 100 aspiring young girls to teach them the basics of the beautiful games.
There were a number of various sessions organised which involved all the girls at the same time. Majority of the girls belonged from BMC Schools, as there is no proper exposure given to them in the field of sports, the governing body of Mumbai football decided to involve them on the occasion of Women’s day.
Bharat Mane, one of the parents was quoted as saying: “This is a brilliant initiative by MDFA to involve the girls on this beautiful occasion. It makes our heart melt to see our young kids participating in such events. More and more sessions should be held for girls which will help them to participate in Sports.”
Bharat Mane’s daughter Bhumika Mane, who was adjudged as the best player of the tournament in the recently concluded Inter-District Football Championship at Jalgaon, expressed her views regarding the same.
“I am very happy to see so many girls participating in this event. We are delighted to be involved,” said Bhumika, with a huge smile on her face. Apart from Bhumika, a number of students from Mankhurd BMC School also expressed their happiness.
