Injured Ozil set to skip Germany’s friendly against Saudi Arabia

A knee injury has forced Ozil to miss the clash against Saudi Arabia

The German FA has confirmed Mesut Ozil, who has a knee injury, will miss Germany’s final International friendly, against Saudi Arabia, ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2018.

The German playmaker was injured during Germany’s shocking defeat to Austria. Reports also suggest Ozil is doubtful for Germany’s World Cup opener against Mexico in Moscow on June 17.

Mesut Ozil, who had a woeful club campaign with Arsenal, missed the closing stages of English Premier League due to an injury. As a precaution ahead of the world cup, the German was limited to training running drills.

An official statement, confirming Ozil’s injury, read, “As a precaution, @MesutOzil1088 didn’t take part in final training today, completing running exercises instead. He is out of #GERKSA with a minor bruise to his left knee,”

The defending champions will travel to Russia after completing their clash against Saudi Arabia. They will be looking to replicate a show that would enable them to retain the crown they had won in 2014, defeating Argentina in the finals.

Joachim Low, recently, announced his 23-man squad for the World Cup. The exclusion of Leroy Sane, who had outstanding performances to his name at Manchester City, left everyone shocking.
