BOI & HDFC into Super Division semi-finals

26th April 2018, Mumbai: On Thursday evening, Bank of India (BOI) and HDFC joined Air India Youth and  Central Railway in the MDFA Super Division semi-finals. Bank of India (BOI) and HDFC both made a comeback after being 1-0 down against FC India and Bombay Gymkhana, respectively to qualify from Group B.

Bank of India (BOI) (Aishwary Belekar 20′, Shankar Thakur 45 + 4′, and Saurabh Dongre 70′) 3-1 FC India (Manish Koli 7′)

Bank of India showed determination after going 1-0 down as they fought back to win the match 3-1 and book their place in the semi-final of Super Division. FC India started quite well as they took an early lead in the 7th-minute through Manish Koli’s neat strike past BOI’s goalkeeper Sanjeev Verma.

But BOI bounced back. In-form striker Aishwary Belekar levelled the score in the 20th minute before Shankar Thakur put BOI’s noses in front with a terrific goal in the additional time of first-half. The momentum completely shifted right there. BOI added another goal in the second-half through Saurabh Dongre which sealed the win for the Bankers.

HDFC (Ramesh Singh 68′ & 80′) 2-1 Bombay Gymkhana (Jordan Braganza 13′)

In another Group B game, HDFC just like BOI recorded a 2-1 win against Bombay Gymkhana after being 1-0 down early in the first-half. Bombay Gymkhana dominated the first-quarter of the game. They opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Jordan Braganza, their dynamic midfielder.

HDFC’s striker Ramesh Singh who had a nightmare in their previous game had a great game today. He equalized in the 68th minute before clinching the winning goal in the 80th minute to break Bombay Gymkhana’s heart.
