MDFA’s Republic Cup Tournament: Round up

St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel: The MDFA’s ‘Dr Nitu Mandke Memorial Cup’ also known as the MDFA’s Republic Cup Tournament kicked off on 23rd January 2017. This tournament has numerous teams from Super, First & Second Division come together to make this one a highly competitive tournament to be witnessed for.

ESIC & Rush Steadfast both from First Division MDFA, got lucky as they were the first two teams in the history of MDFA to play under floodlights. The match later resulted in a victory for ESIC as they came up from one goal down scored by Karamoko Soulio to score three where Shubham Patel scored a brace and one goal from Richard Abraham which sealed it all for ESIC.

The second match of the evening was played between The Bombay Disabled’s Association & Dadar XI where another comeback was witnessed when Pawan Singh & Ved Sawant from Bombay Association cancelled out an early goal by Pranit Kadam from Dadar XI resulting in a win for Bombay Association.

The third match of the evening couldn’t be decided as it resulted in 1-1 at full time. Fahim Munshi for ICL – A got the first goal of the game in the 43rd minute which was cancelled out quickly by Karan Bhujbal from Miners SC – ‘A’ in the 46th minute. The game was later decided in the tie- breakers as ICL A scored 3 against 2 from Miners SC A to help them qualify for the next round.

Pifa Colaba U19 played Worli SC in the fourth and the last fixture of the day in the Cup as Worli SC thumbed Pifa Colaba two goals to one. The first goal of the game was scored by Akash Jadhav in the 11th minute gave Pifa Colaba an early lead but lately, in the second half goals from Worli SC, Raghwan & Prathamesh Samant one each in the dying moments of the game through theme into next round.
