MDFA Chairman, Aditya Thackeray lauds Aizawl, coach Khalid and players Jayesh & Ashutosh: MDFA website launch

Mumbai, May 2: MDFA Chairman, Aditya Thackeray, was all praise for new I-League champions Aizawl FC and their Mumbai-based coach Khaild Jamil and Mumbai players Jayesh Rane and Ashutosh Mehta.

“Aizawl FC have had a dream run. From being relegated last season to be crowned champions is something fantastic. This is all due to their team work and coach Khalid Jamil who is from Mumbai. Two Mumbai players Jayesh Rane and Ashutosh Mehta have contributed towards the success of the Northeast club,” Thackeray pointed during the MDFA Meet and Greet session with media persons at the Islam Gymkhana on Tuesday.

“Both Jayesh and Ashutosh have basically come through the development of Mumbai football and it’s a pride for us at MDFA,” said the Yuva Sena leader Thackeray.

However, Thackeray was disappointed that Mumbai FC got relegated. “I’m sad that Mumbai FC, which is the only club from the city participating in the I-League, is releagated. But I am confident that they will come back next year. As a Mumbaikar I have always cheered for Mumbai FC and will continue to support and cheer them,” he further stated.

Thackeray later launched the refurbished MDFA website and also spoke of their development plans.

The MDFA Chairman mentioned that football is going to grow in the city. “Our MDFA teams have won all the Inter-district tournaments organized by WIFA. We are in the process of starting programmes for skill developments and also look towards infrastructure development.”

He also said that he has requested the concerned authorities to provide space to develop football grounds in Thane and BKC. “We have the St. Xavier’s ground at Parel and the Mumbai Sports Arena at the Sahaji Raje Sports Complex in Andheri and the Neville DeSouza ground is coming up at Bandra. Now, I have requested the Municipal corporations of Thane and Mumbai to allot us some plot of land to construct football grounds in Thane and somewhere near BKC. That would give us the opportunity to conduct our leagues smoothly.”
