Maharashtra Governor opens OORJA Cup 2017

Mumbai, May 2: A bright and colourful ceremony, graced by H.E. Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, Honourable Governor of Maharashtra, the Chief Guest on the occasion, marked the Opening of the OORJA – CAPFs Under-19 Football Talent Hunt 2017. Also attending the function was film personalities Farhan Akhtar and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, both Guests of Honour and Special Guest, Olympian shooter Anjali Bhagwat.

Mr Satish Khandare, I.G. (West Zone – Central Industrial Security Force) welcome the Guests and the other dignitaries and the invitees. Other Ranked officers of CISF were also present during the occasion which was witnessed by all the 16 teams and a large gathering of well-wishers.

The Governor of Maharashtra expressed his pleasure and said, “I’m extremely happy to be associated with the OORJA – CAPFs Under-19 Football Talent Hunt 2017, which is being organized by CAPF. The CAPF was selected by the Government of India to conduct this event and they have made all the necessary arrangements to ensure the tournament is well organized. I would like to thank I.G. Satish Khandare and his team for the dedication, commitment and hard work in getting this tournament organized,”

“India will be hosting the prestigious FIFA Under-17 World Cup in October this year and this would be the turning point in India’s sporting history,” he proudly stated.

India will be proudly hosting the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in October 2017. Seizing the opportunity, the Honourable prime Minister, Narendra Modi has called for support of not only children, but their parents also to encourage boys and girls to play football and develop both skills and fitness. In view of the appeal of the Prime Minister, the Central Armed Police Forces are conducting the OORJA – CAPFs Under-19 Football Talent Hunt 2017.

CAPFs will be jointly organizing the tournament under the aegis of the All India Police Sports Control Board throughout the country in three phases. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will conduct the tournament for boys and girls under-19 in the States & Union Territories of Maharashtra, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Dadar & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.

A total of 8 boys and 8 girls teams are participating in this tournament and the matches will be played at the JNPT ground, Uran and RCF ground, Chembur.
