Bodyline, Football Leader to clash for women’s crown

Mumbai, April 30: Defending champions Bodyline FC and Football Leaders Academy took different routes to the final of the MDFA Women’s League 2017 and played at the Karnatak SA ground, Cross Maidan.

In the first semi-final encounter, Bodyline moved a step closer towards defending their title as they stormed PIFA recording a facile 8-0 win after leading 3-0 at the half-time.

Seasoned and lanky striker Ameeta venkat spearheaded the Bodyline attack and struck three goals, while Aditi Shetty chipped in with two goals, while Kimberley Fernandez, Rita’cascia Ukachukwu and Tricia Collaco added in one each to round off the winning tally.

Later, Football Leaders were locked in a grim battle for supremacy and although both sides managed to create scoring chances the scoreboard remained blank at the end of the regulation period and the tie-breaker penalty shootout was enforced to settle the issue.

In the tense penalty shootout duel, Football Leaders successfully converted through Joytika Singh, Vallencia Mascarenhas, Laura Estiberio and Suman Salian, while Companeroes could only score two with Babita Nadar and Ayesha Rawat finding the target.

The final will be played on 1st May, at 3.30 pm at the Karnatak SA ground, Cross Maidan, Churchgate end.

Results –Women’s League (semi-finals): Football Leaders Academy 4 (Joytika Singh, Vallencia Mascarenhas, Laura Estiberio, Suman Salian) beat Companeroes SC  2 (Babita Nadar, Ayesha Rawat) via the tie-breaker. Full-time: 0-0.
