Sahyadri KM pull off an upset edging past Kenkre U-17

Sahyadri KM pulled off an upset over Kenkre U-17 in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) First Division match on Monday afternoon, 11th January at St Xavier’s ground Parel.

Kenkre U-17 were giving another blow when Sahyadri KM defeated them by a single goal. For many an upset after Kenkre dominated the game with more of the possession and creation of chances

Sahyadri KM number 22 Akil S scored the only goal of the match which came almost  at the end of the 1st half through a set piece. Although Sahyadri created a few chances they were wasteful in the final third spurning glorious chances to take the lead. One of them was midway through the first half when their striker took a tame shot on goal which was saved by the keeper. A bit more power in that shot would have seen the ball bulge the net. But that wasn’t the case

Kenkre played their own game keeping the ball passing it beautifully only to be wasteful themselves in the final third. There were a lot of misplaced passes in the midfield as Sahyadri managed to clear the ball. In the 39th minute they earned a corner which was fired at the far post only to be pulled back and put inside the goal by Akil S. At Halftime Sahyadri KM lead 1-0.

As expected the second half belonged to Kenkre U-17 who were looking for an equaliser. They dominated possession for longer periods trying to switch the play but to no avail. Sahyadri held firm in their pursuit of a win. At the very end Kenkre got a chance to equalise through a freekick only for Mandeep Singh to hit the wall.

At the final whistle Sahyadri KM celebrated to what proved a vital win for them against a very good Kenkre U-17. For the Kenkre U-17 boys the defeat is sour after dominating possession but failing to convert their chances.
