Day 2 Round-up: Rustomjee Kenkre Champions League

The Rustomjee Kenkre Champions League resumed last Sunday with a host of new teams registered and more bright talent on display. Here is the complete round-up of all the games played on Day 2 of the Rustomjee Kenkre Champions League at Don Bosco grounds, Matunga from the under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14 and the Girls open category.

Girls – open

In the first match of Girls open category, Shooting Stars and Super Striker held each-other through to the full-time whistle to share points in an enthralling encounter. The crowd witnessed both sides desperately trying to score the first-goal, but a resolute defensive effort from both sides concluded the game in a goalless draw. Despite being goalless, the game set the rhythm perfectly to capture the attention of the crowd for the upcoming games in the category.

Boys under-14 ‘A’

Sidemen X beat Bosco Antonovs by three goals to zero; goals from Mannan Dang, Aman Manghi and an own-goal helped Bosco Antonovs clinch a deserved victory for an excellent all round performance and dominance throughout the game. In the other group game between Thunderbolts and Sidemen X, the former were hopeful to get a narrow 1-0 win with a solitary goal scored by Rosh Rodrigues.

Boys under-14 ‘B’

Angry Bulls beat FSI by two goals to one. 2 goals from Shaurya proved enough to overcome Vignesh Pradhan’s striker for FSI to give Angry Bulls maximum points. In the other group ‘B’ game, this time, Angry Bulls won comprehensively against Antlers as they flat their opposition 5-0; 4 goals from Shaurya and one goal from Suchir Vootla helped boost Angry Bulls’ goal difference in a fulfilling victory.

Boys under-12 ‘A’

In opening match of the group on the day, Chargers beat AB Wingers by 3-0 with a touch of patience. Having got the opener, Chargers took their time to score on regular intervals to wrap-up a victory on the back of a fine collective performance with goals from Kaustubh Mathur, Agastya Saraf and Jaiden Irani.

Boys under-12 ‘B’

The match between FFA (Blue) and Western India United was a highlight fixture. A pulsating 4-3 score-line at the full-time whistle in favour of FFA (Blue) says enough. Having started the match brightly, Western India United failed to convert their chances and narrowly felt short as two goals from Raul Almedia and one goal from Deepankar Senapati were squashed with four goals from different goal-scorers for FFA (Blue): Saad, Amog, Hamza and Karl.

Ashoka Towers swept Knicks by three goals to zero; Vivan Lahiri scored two goals as Aayan Mahajan added a third to attain full points in their opening game of the tournament. One of the two highest scoring games on the day was FFA’s (Red) win by 9-0 over Super Smashers. The home-side witnessed goals pouring one after another, Arjun and Jaffer added two goals each, Arjun, Sparsh, Shayn added the other 3 before Zal finished the scoring galore at 9-0.

St. Stanislaus held Lions to a 1-1 draw in the opening game of the group, which consist the youngest footballers on display. Simon Cardoz opened the scoring, but was later cancelled out by Kahaan Doshi’s strike. FFA secured a marginal 2-1 win over AB Champs with goals from Owais and Ali Tajir.
