Mumbai FC Colts share the spoils with Kenkre U-19
Kenkre U-19 were held to a 1-1 draw by Mumbai FC Colts in the Mumbai District Football Association(MDFA) Super Division match on 11th January, at St Xavier’s ground, Parel.
A game which promised lots of fireworks failed to live upto its expectations as both sides cancelled each other. To what seemed an interesting first half. The second half was a dip in pace from both sides who failed to score the winner
Kenkre U-19 were aggressive to start the match and most of their attacking was done from the right, right back number 12 Shunthan Pheiray stealing the show. Mumbai FC were smart enough to build through the centre looking to exploit the spaces only for Kenkre to intercept the loose balls
The breakthrough of the game came in the 28th minute when Shunthan volleyed the ball setup from the corner. A pinpoint pass in the middle met with precision and power giving Kenkre the lead. Mumbai were quick to start off as they created a string of chances of their own. But some heavy touches and lack of crosses kept them frustrated. At halftime Kenkre U-19 went in with a 1-0 lead contrary to their U-17 team in the previous match.
The second half began as expected with Mumbai firing on all cylinders looking for the equaliser. And they got their reward just 2 minutes into the second half when number 19 MD Qais Khan equalised for them. A much needed goal that brought life to the game. But as everyone thought this game would take off, the quality levels disintegrated with a lot of misplaced passes and fouls. There were a lot of breaks in the second half. The possession from both sides was sloppy as they failed to capitalise on the opponents errors. With what seemed a very attacking first half, the second half was a defensive where both the defences nullified the attackers. Eventually at full time the score remained 1-1 as both teams salvaged a point.
With seemed like a Kenkre U-19’s match, Mumbai did well to equalise and grab a foothold only to cancel each other.
