Mumbai FC Player Ratings against East Bengal

Mumbai FC drew 0-0 with Kingfisher East Bengal at Cooperage on Sunday evening. Mumbai FC dominated the first half, while East Bengal had the better of the second period.
Here is a report card of how the Mumbai FC players faired during the game:
No 13: Pawan Kumar (Gk) – 7/10
Pawan Kumar stood firm in the Mumbai goal in the second half after he had very little to do in the first period. The Mumbai FC goalkeeper pulled off a brilliant save to keep out Do-Dong’s header in the second half. Pawan Kumar showed good understanding with his defenders and was complemented by his centre backs.
No 6 : Minchol Son: 9/10
Stand out performer of the match. Complemented Pratik very well in defense. Grew in stature in the second half with his interceptions and excellent reading of the game. Made some vital interventions and most importantly kept Ranti Martins quiet.
No 2: Pratik Chowdhary: 9/10
Pratik Chaudhary was calm and composed in defence. The towering centre back made a crucial block to stop Sanju Pradhan from scoring. Chaudhary also had a good understanding with Taisuke and Son and was able to intervene and thwart the attacks efficiently. Most importantly, Chaudhary was never caught out of position. Top performance.
No 27 Clyde Fernandes: 6/10
The youngster was caught out of position as East Bengal exploited the Left side of Mumbai. He did link up well with Eric Brown on the left in the first half, but Khalid Jamil took him off at half time, probably just to protect his confidence.
NO 3 Ashutosh Mehta : 6.5/10
Ashutosh was excellent in the first half and looked fired up. The full back made some excellent runs down the right linking up with Steven Dias and was a threat to East Bengal from the set-pieces.
Struggled in the second half after being asked to play in the left back role, but found his feet again as the game drew to a close.
No 11: Taisuke Matsugae 7/10
Taisuke didn’t have the similar influence on the game as he used to last season, but proved to be the anchor of this Mumbai side. The Japanese protected his defenders well and covered up ground when full-backs surged forward.
Taisuke’s hands were full with the East Bengal midfielders in the second half and couldn’t initiate attacks.
No 21 Arata Izumi 6.5/10
Arata Izumi had a quiet game by his standards. He was highly involved in the first half but his influence faded as an attacking force in the second half.
But like Taisuke, Arata worked his socks off in the second half where he was looking to track back an intercept.
No 23 Steven Dias 6.5/10
Steven Dias made excellent link-ups on the right with Mehta. He made sure the tempo of the game did not drop and also delivered some very good balls through set-pieces which Mumbai failed to capitalise on. Was substituted midway through the second half.
No 10 Eric Brown 8/10
Brown was Mumbai FC’s best attacking player on the pitch. He remained a constant threat down the left hand side for Mumbai. His movements were lovely as he made some very good runs in the box. Almost scored through a freekick hitting the right side of the post. Ran tirelessly helping out the midfield and defense.
No 7 Jayesh Rane 5.5/10
Jayesh Rane didn’t have the best of the games. He wasn’t as effective playing in the hole behind the striker. Coach Khalid Jamil wasn’t too happy with Jayesh’s performance and switched him to the flanks in the second half.
Jayesh has a big role to play in Khalid Jamil’s set-up and the coach has high expectations of him. The youngster wasn’t able to deliver the goods in the first home game, but to be fair, he was played out of position.
No 14 Sushil Kumar Singh: 6/10
Sushil Kumar Singh did well to track back and regain possession and worked tirelessly to prevent East Bengal from building from the back. The forward didn’t trouble the defence much but to be fair to him he didn’t get the desired service.
No 8 Pradeep P: 6/10 – Pradeep came on at a very crucial stage in the game and did well to curb the East Bengal attacks.
But otherwise failed to have any influence on the game.
No 25: Shrikant Ramu 7/10 – Shrikanth Ramu replaced Clyde Fernandes at half time and did well to shackle Bikash Jairu on the lefy
