I have full faith in the caliber of my team: Biswajit Bhattacharya

East Bengal were held to a 0-0 draw by Mumbai FC at Cooperage on Sunday evening and the Red and Golds missed a host of chances in the second half to clinch all three points from the game. It was another game when East Bengal started slowly and were almost made to pay for it in the opening half an hour by a Mumbai FC side who were quickly oout of the blocks.

But the East Bengal Head Coach Biswajit Bhattacharya wasn’t concerned with his side’s slow start to the game, stating he believes his side showed their true caliber in the second half. “I am not worried as a coach as I have full faith in the team’s ability. The team showed their quality by coming strong in the second half and I am convinced the team can perform at that level consistently,” Bhattacharya said after the game as he addressed the media.

The former Indian forward felt his side should have won the game with the number of chances they created in the second half, but decided against dwelling too much on it. “We totally dominated the second half, Sanju Pradhan had two very good chances, Do-Dong’s header was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper and Khabra and Jairu had chances too. But we didn’t take them and must move on. In football, you lose some games, you win some games, you play well sometimes or you don’t. This is part of the game,” opined the East Bengal boss.

However, Bhattacharya did accept that there were a few flaws in his side that need ironing out and claimed to do so in the training sessions to follow. “There are a few faults in our play that we will be working on in the training sessions. But overall I am pleased with my side’s efforts,” Bhattacharya concluded.

East Bengal now face arch rivals Mohun Bagan in the big Bengal derby next weekend and that game would tell us a lot about what East Bengal are actually made off.
