VNFC dethrone former Champions HDFC Tigers to win IFS League 2.0

VNFC become the Champions of IFS tournament Season 2 in the nail biting fashion where they defeated HDFC Tigers 4-2 on 12th September 2015 at Cooperage.

VNFC and HDFC Tigers had finished on same points after the league stage, with VNFC finishing top of the pile on virtue of goal difference.

Within a minute of the first whistle VNFC striker Sylla Aelva had scored the opening goal not allowing HDFC Tigers to settle in the game.

15 minutes in to the first half, Sylla had a chance to double his team’s lead but his shot rebounded hitting the crossbar. Sylla got it right, the second time around in the very next minute

Pressure was mounting on HDFC Tigers and they got another setback just a minute before the end of first half with yet another goal by VNFC.

HDFC Tigers were trailing 3-0 by the start of second half and it was their goalkeeper Prakash Chauhan who made incredible saves to deny VNFC any further lead.

10 minutes into the second half, Nigel D’souza finally opened the goal scoring account for HDFC Tigers as he placed the ball beautifully at the bottom left corner of the post.

The following minute, HDFC Tiger player, Ketan Kalgutkar narrowed the lead of VNFC further to 3-2. HDFC Tigers coming so close to victory were looking for an equalizer but missed the opportunity to score.

As the match came nearer to conclusion, HDFC Tigers brought in Rakash Yadav to handle the goal post as he added attacking power back to HDFC Tigers side.

VNFC got their 4th goal just minutes before the final whistle and VNFC player, Abdul Baros celebrated the Goal by Triple Aerial Flips with victory coming their way as they Defeated HDFC Tigers 4-2.

Vignesh Naikar the VNFC coach described the win as a proud moment as they won the IFS tournament in their debut season dethroning the former Champions HDFC Tigers.
