Five Moments on the Day One of the Go Green Cup which will bring a smile to every football fan

The 5th edition of Go Green Cup kicked it off in style today at the Don Bosco ground in Matunga. There were twenty four games played on the day across five categories which threw plenty of special moments and talking points. We look back at some of the moments which defined what the day was all about.

1. The Don Bosco Family
Don Bosco were ever present across all categories with a high number of teams involved. But despite being divided in teams, the Don Bosco family got together for every practice session and warm up session before the game. To follow this up, the teams were easily able to separate from the larger group to go on the pitch and more often than not dismantle the opposition team. The Go Green Cup’s opening day portrayed a great footballing culture of Don Bosco.

2. Chanting Parents liven up the atmosphere
The Go Green Cup is incomplete without the enthusiastic parents who turn up in large numbers to cheer their kids on. The first day of this season’s Go Green Cup was no different. But during the U-8 game between Scottish Champs and Don Bosco B two sets of parents entered into a chanting competition to liven up the atmosphere. The future is bright for young kids with parents like these.

3. Age is just a number
Harsh Palande proved right the clichéd saying of ‘Age is just a number’. Usually referred to ageing stars Harsh Palande did the reverse of it as he fired four goals for the Blues in a U-12 category despite being a lot younger than the other players in the category. Minutes later, Harsh stepped up for Don Bosco in the U-10 category to score in their 4-1 win.

4. Like Father, Like Son
Jaffer Mansoori scored a brace for Fun foot Academy Reds side in their 5-0 victory. He impressed the crowd during that game and showed glimpses of his father Altaf Mansoori who plays for Reserve Bank of India.

5. My Mommy strongest
In the most amazing moment of the day, a mother of a player from team Spartans took charge of proceedings in a U-17 game at half time. She calmed down the group and delivered an inspiring half time talk which helped Spartans to go on and win the match. She was giving them all kind of instructions in the second half as any good coach would do. It was heartwarming to see the level of support the kids got from their parents. As for Spartans, Super Mommy turned out to be the Super Coach. Indeed a ‘Special One’.
