Khalid Jamil was a relieved man after his side finally notched up a win in this season’s I-League after Mumbai FC beat an in-form Salgaocar side 3-0 at Cooperage on Friday.

Jamil who usually doesn’t give anything away when it comes to emotions, kissed the turf after the game as it meant so much to the Mumbai FC boss. “It was after a long time, we won the game and hence I reacted that way. It’s a huge relief for us”.

Jamil was quick to distance himself from the limelight and claimed the victory was down to the players who had worked extremely hard in the past few days. “The players practiced a lot, trained hard and showed plenty of patience and the victory is down to them. They deserve this”.

Khalid Jamil belived he got all that he had asked for and everything clicked for them. “The early goal was the key for us. We took all the chances that came our way today, all the three goals were brilliant and everyone played their part. Everything clicked for us today”.

Jamil had more praise in store for his players but warned them against complacency. ”Everyone was good today. The players always looked like scoring unlike the game against Sporting. It was a much improved performance, but we must not allow this to get to our heads. We need to repeat this performance against Royal Wahingdoh”.

Jamil was delighted with the crowd turn out at Cooperage and felt it was something different which he had never seen before. “The crowd was brilliant. This is the first time I have seen such a crowd in Mumbai. Earlier when we used to face clubs from Goa here, we had more supporters from Goa, but today it was all Mumbai FC supporters. It was a great feeling”.

Jayesh Rane was the star for Mumbai FC today, giving plenty of problems for the Salgaocar backline all day long and also had a part to play in all of Mumbai’s goals. “Jayesh was very good today. His goal was classic. It is never easy to finish one on one especially against Subrata Paul who doesn’t concede many”.

‘The Indian Neymar’ as he is famously known as was humble about his performance. “I can’t rate my own performance. My coach will do that. But I enjoyed myself”.

Jayesh Rane who was playing his first I-League match at Cooperage was extremely delighted with the crowd. “The crowd was brilliant. It was a pleasure to play here. It was my first game here and I am looking forward to play many more, especially the next one which is on my birthday”.

Jayesh Rane said he practiced that move which led to him scoring on the training pitch and credited his team mate Josimar for a beautiful pass. “We practiced that move a lot on the training pitch and Josimar delivered the perfect pass”.

Khalid Jamil and co. will now look to take the confidence from this game into their next game on Friday when they play host to Royal Wahingdoh.
