Companeroes B come back to sink Mubarak Hunters

Companeroes ‘B’ shrugged off a first half deficit to overcome Mubarak Hunters 2-1 in the 2nd Division of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) at St. Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Wednesday, 2nd September 2015.

Companeroes started the better of the two sides and were rewarded with a penalty in the 15th minute of the game. Hitesh Bamahiya stepped up to take the spot kick but his effort hit the right hand side post and the rebound fell kindly for Sheldon Miranda whose shot was well saved by the Mumbarak Hunters goalkeeper.

Despite the penalty disappointment, Companeroes continued to dictate terms in the game as Mubarak Hunters resisted the pressure well.

In the 30th minute, it was Mubarak Hunters who took a shock lead when Shadaf Malik coolly finished past the Companeroes goalkeeper following a counter attack. So in spite of dominating the entire game, Companeroes found themselves behind going into half time.

Having made to chase the game, Companeroes started the second half brightly but were almost made to pay once again by Mubarak Hunters who were brilliantly denied by the Companeroes goalkeeper as he saved Prashant Singh’s effort in the 45th minute.

But finally eight minutes later, the pressure gave and Companeroes equalized through Peter Robert who scored after latching onto a corner kick. The equalizer broke the Mubarak Hunters’ resistance and left them vulnerable against a confident Companeroes side who were then chasing the win.

Mubarak Hunters weathered the post goal storm from the Companeroes and just as one thought they had done enough to earn a point, Comapaneroes grabbed the winning goal five minutes from time. Neville D’Souza latched onto a rebound from Brandon D’Souza’s shot and squared it to Somesh Masurkar who tapped it home and put his team in the lead.

Deflated by the second goal, Mubarak Hunters couldn’t mount a comeback as Companeroes completed a comeback win over Mubarak Hunters. It was by no means a straight forward game for Companeroes who were tested to the fullest of their abilities by Mubarak Hunters
