Air India’s second half show tames MS Police

Air India thumped five goals past the Maharashtra State Police in the second half to win 5-1 after the State Cops had managed to frustrate the defending champions in the first half of an Elite Division game of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) at Cooperage on 31st March 2015.

MS Police who had been at the end of some spankings in their previous outings had their task cut out against an Air India side that were fresh off a 5-1 thumping of Companeroes in their last game.

But MS Police showed great resolve from the first minute as they worked their socks off to avoid another thumping by not allowing Air India an early goal.

The policemen weathered the first twenty minutes without any damage and managed to frustrate the Champions for the remainder of the half.

But Air India came storming out in the second half and it took them just a minute to breach the MS Police defence as Harold Fernandes got them the breakthrough on 46 minutes.

MS Police got a bit complacent after a good showing in the first half and paid the price for it as Air India’s early opener in the second period opened the floodgates.

Sagar Chile doubled Air India’s lead on the hour mark which virtually ended MS Police’s hopes of getting anything from the game.

Things got worse for the policemen when Melvin Steven put the result beyond any doubt striking Air India’s third goal in the 67th minute. But there was further misery in store for the State Cops who conceded yet again a minute later, this time to Vishnu T. who made it 4-0 to Air India.

MS Police completely capitulated in the second half as Air India seemed to continue their winning run in the MDFA Elite Division.

But there was some joy for MS Police when they managed to get on the score sheet, thanks to Farhaz Shaikh who grabbed a consolation in the 83rd minute to make it 4-1.

But it was Air India who had the last laugh when Johnychand Singh completed the rout scoring Air India’s fifth goal in the first minute of stoppage time.

It was Air India’s second successive win with this score line in the week.
Meanwhile, the Air India U-19 team won their Super Division play-off match with Juhu Sparks FC 6-0 as Jagdish Madada netted five times before Alan Dias added a sixth for the Air India U-19 side.
