The Sports Gurukul edge an eleven goal thriller against Rising Stars FC

Rising Stars clashed with The Sports Gurukul in a thrilling 3rd division match held at St. Xavier’s ground Parel in the afternoon heat. The last minute penalty was the game changer as Sports Gurukul won the match 6-5.

The onslaught began from the very first minute from The Sports Gurukul strikers and it paid off in the 2nd minute itself with Sachin Kumavat scoring the goal for them.

Daneesh Shaikh of Sports Gurukul chipped the ball over the head of Shubhendra Mokal , the Rising Stars goalkeeper after some short passes in the Rising stars defensive third in the 5th minute.

Soon there was a chance for the 3rd goal of the day but Varun missed the chance provided by Sachin as he fell while kicking the ball in front of the goal and by the time he got up, Rising Star’s defenders had already caught up with him.

A 12th minute goal by Ankit Pandey from Rising Stars put the pressure back on The Sports Gurukul to defend the 2-1 lead. But, just before the end of first half, a 3rd goal was scored by Sachin after he took advantage of a minor confusion between Shubhendra and his teammate and put the ball easily inside the goal post.

The 2nd half began with Chaturth Kumarat and Ankit attempting to score for Rising Stars. Their attempts became successful in the 27th minute as Mikhil Tandel scored with assistance from Mayank Doshi.

Pravin of Gurukul scored in the 30th minute as the ball went inside with a little deviation from the far post and Sachin scored his hat- trick 3 minutes later with 5 goals on the table for Gurukul and 2 for Rising stars.

In the 36th minute, Celestien Alphones controlled the ball and kicked it through Rahul Yadav, the Gurukul goalkeeper’s legs and Goal ! Vigneshwar Pallani scored from just outside the penatly box into the top left corner post and it seemed like the match would end in a draw as Rising Stars trailed by just one goal then.

The game changing moment of the match was witnessed in the 41st minute when Shubhendra left his box to support his teammates and Habeel Shaikh was successful in getting hold of the ball. As both clashed for the ball Habeel feel inside the box and Shubhendra was shown red card as well as penalty was awarded. The penalty was saved by Ankit. He took the goal kick and within seconds Mikhil had scored for his side again.

Ankit not being the routine goalkeeper failed to collect the ball which got deflected and reached Pravin’s feet which he just touched and the fate was sealed with end result being Rising Stars giving a tough fight and losing 6-5 to Sports Gurukul.

Earlier that day, LIC S.C. played against the ICL under 19 team. The middle aged LIC players suffered a defeat with Kunal Kunder, Ram Nadar, Vishnu Dhanpal scoring one goal each and Mrudul Darag scored 2 goals to clinch ICL 6-0 win.
