Mumbai Premier League 2024-25: Group B Confirms IoT, MH Oranje,Hope United, Mumbay & ICL for Championship stage

The Mumbai Premier League (MPL) is nearing its next phase, with five teams from Group B — India On Track FC (IoT FC), MH Oranje FC, Hope United FC, Mumbay FC, and ICL Mumbai — securing their spots in the playoffs for the 2024-25 season.

India On Track FC

IoT FC, a team promoted from the Mumbai Super League this season, has stunned everyone by comfortably topping Group B. The team remains undefeated, winning seven matches and dropping points only in a 1-1 draw against MH Oranje FC. IoT FC boasts the best defensive record in the group, conceding only three goals, and ranks second in scoring with 26 goals.

Their striker, Arfat Ansari, has been in fine form, scoring seven goals and currently sitting third on the top scorers’ list. IoT FC also holds the league’s best clean sheet record, with five shutouts. Their performance during the group stage is a perfect blend of attack and defense.

MH Oranje FC

MH Oranje FC made an incredible comeback, bouncing back after a rocky start to the season, where they lost two matches early on against Mumbay FC and Hope United FC. With seasoned squad depth, they have not only secured second place in Group B but also claimed the title of highest scorers across both groups, while conceding just four goals — the second-best defensive record in the league. With Mohd. Khatib currently sitting as the league’s joint top scorer with 10 goal

Hope United FC

Last season’s third-placed team, Hope United FC, secured another playoff berth, sitting in third place. They had a strong start to the season, winning matches consistently and even leading the table at one point. However, recent dropped points have pushed them down to third.

Defensively, they are stable with the third-best clean sheet record in the league. Offensively, their talisman Sunny Thakur has scored seven goals, supported by Asad Khan and Rishi Chauhan, who have netted five and four goals respectively.

Mumbay FC

Mumbay FC had a dream debut season, defeating giants like MH Oranje FC and Hope United FC in their first five matches. However, two consecutive losses — a narrow 1-0 defeat to Millat FC and a heavy 4-0 loss to IoT FC — slowed their momentum. Despite this, their early grinding results secured them a playoff berth, a proud achievement for the club in its maiden MPL campaign.

ICL Mumbai

ICL Mumbai clinched the final playoff spot in dramatic fashion. With 4 wins they marched into do-or-die fixture against Millat FC, they came from behind to win 2-1, thanks to two stunning goals from Zeeshan Akhtar. Zeeshan’s heroics not only secured their playoff berth but also made him the joint top scorer of the season, tied with MH Oranje FC’s Mohd. Khatib.

Relegation Stage

While the top five teams move forward to the playoffs, the relegation stage sets up teams from group B- Millat FC, Iron Born FC, Bombay Gymkhana, and Sellebrity FC will compete in the relegation group after failing to secure playoff spots.
