Santosh Trophy 2022-23: Maharashtra bow out of the competition after a draw against Karnataka

Maharashtra and Karnataka played out a 3-3 draw at the OFA 7th Battalion earlier today, leaving the former out of contention for a place in the semi-finals of the competition.
It was Maharashtra who opened the score, in the 14th minute of the game. Pavan Vijay Mali’s powerful shot from close range deflected off the crossbar and the rebound was striked in by Johnson Joseph.
Karnataka equalised just before the half-time whistle, through Robin Yadav. They were awarded a penalty for a foul on Shelton by Maharashtra’s Johnson. Robin, who took it, successfully placed the ball into the left-side of the post. Maharashtra keeper Shivam dived to the same side, but couldn’t get his hand on it.
Maharashtra got their lead back in the 54th minute, through Armash Ansari. He nodded home a headed cross from Sumit to give his side the lead.
5 minutes later, Ansari completed his brace and gave Maharashtra a two-goal cushion. He received a through ball from captain Sufiyan Sheikh, dribbled past the Karnataka goalkeeper Satyajit Bordoloi and slotted the ball into the net.
Karnataka pulled one back in the 60th minute. Lalremtuangla’s cut-back from the right side of the post turned into a melee inside the box as Maharashtra’s defense failed to clear their lines, Ankith, who came charging for the ball, finally placed the ball into the net.
Karnataka completed their comeback and scored their equalizer in the 11th minute of the stoppage time. Lalremtuangla’s long throw was headed home by Shajan Franklin, earning his side a much more important point from the game.
