Northeast United ropes in Rajasthan United midfielder Joseba Beitia

The 32-year-old Spaniard clinched the I-league title with Mohun Bagan in the 2019-20 season and the highlanders will be hoping for some change in their fortunes too

Northeast United FC have confirmed the signing of Joseba Beitia from Rajasthan United till the end of the season. The club has reportedly paid an undisclosed transfer fee to bring the Spaniard home.

Beitia played for Rajasthan United in the first part of the season. He also played a huge role in their Baji Rout cup victory, which happened before the I-league season. He featured in 11 matches in this I-league season and bagged a goal and an assist.

The Spaniard’s first season in India was with the Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan in the 2019-20 season, where he went on to win the I-league. He then signed for RoundGlass Punjab FC, playing the following two seasons there. He appeared in 33 games for the Punjab-based side and scored 4 goals.

Northeast United FC is going through a very difficult season. They are placed 11th in the table and have only managed to record 4 points from 15 games in the ISL. Their poor performance in the league also forced the management to part ways with their former manager Marco Balbul, who was not even able to record a point in the league.

However, things look positive for them after the management’s appointment of Vincenzo Alberto Annese. They achieved their first win of the season against heavyweights ATK Mohun Bagan. The Northeastern club was also able to bag a point against FC Goa in a 2-2 draw.
