FC Goa vs Hyderabad FC – 3 Key Battles to watch out for

As the league proceeds to the final matchday of the season, it is going to be nothing less than an enthralling encounter when FC Goa lock horns against Hyderabad FC.
With ATK Mohun Bagan, Mumbai City and NorthEast United confirming slots for the playoffs after a combined unbeaten streak of 33 games, FC Goa would require a point, whereas Hyderabad need a win to proceed in the competition.
FC Goa has convincingly won all of their previous three encounters against Hyderabad. A 1-0 and 4-1 helped FC Goa consolidate their standing in the previous season, and they clinched a 2-1 victory earlier this season.
FootballCounter takes a closer look at the players who might have pivotal responsibilities to shoulder when the sides play the most important game of this season so far:
James Donachie vs Fran Sandaza
Fran Sandaza might be bestowed with responsibilities to fill in the boots of Hyderabad FC marksman Aridane Santana. The loss of one of the finest players of this season would require heavy compensation by the Nizams if they aspire to move forward. Fran has played a total of 10 matches this season contributing 4 goals and 2 assists. He will have to step up when Hyderabad would field players to gain nothing less than a win. FC Goa has always been known for their attacking displays, but the team has struggled defensively. The Gaurs have failed to keep a clean sheet in 8 of their previous outings and it is to be seen whether James Donachie and co. can turn the tide. James has been robust this season at the heart of FC Goa’s defence having played 15 games so far.
Glan Martins vs Halicharan Narzary
Both FC Goa and Hyderabad FC are regarded as tough teams to read when in ball possession. Goa leads the league in terms of average ball possession (62%) followed by Hyderabad placed at third (52%). It is to be seen how youngsters Glan Martins and Halicharan Narzary contribute to their teams when the sides clash. Glan was transferred from ATK Mohun Bagan and marked his homecoming with a screamer against Mumbai City. The 26-year-old midfielder has ever since played a total of 12 matches clocking 600+ minutes. On the other hand, Halicharan Narzary has had a considerable season for Hyderabad FC scoring 4 goals in 19 matches. Considering the absence of Santana, it remains to be seen whether Narzary can step up to play a crucial role in gaining the much anticipated 3 points.
Igor Angulo vs Odei Onaindia
FC Goa leads the league table when it comes to average shots taken on goal. The Gaurs are one of the fiercest forces when it comes to attacks. The last time when both sides met, FC Goa had a 100% conversion rate with Igor and Ishan scoring from 2 attempts on goal. Angulo has been a revelation this season. The 37-year-old Spaniard has scored 13 times, trailing by a goal against ATK Mohun Bagan talisman Roy Krishna to become the top scorer. Odei Onaindia, with an experience of 19 matches throughout the season will have a massive responsibility to lead Hyderabad in their conquest to keep the sturdy opponents at bay.
