Mumbai City FC parts ways with 12 players

Mumbai City FC bid adieu to club all time top scorer Modou Sougou and 11 others, who were a part of the 2019/20 squad, having made numerous signings for the 2020/21 season.
Modou Sougou, one of the most experienced and high profile player, is one of the 12 players to leave the club after two seasons of playing as an islander. The Senegalese scored 15 goals over the span of two seasons making him the clubs highest goal scorer. He scored 12 of those 15 goals in the 2018/19 season when the Islanders made it to the semi finals of the Hero ISL. Mohamed Larbi is another international player who scored 2 goals and assisted 3 in the 2019/20 campaign. The Tunisian was one of the most experienced players in the squad.
Amine Chermiti is another Tunisian who is leaving the club on a high. Having scored 6 goals in his only ISL campaign, Chermiti is leaving the club after playing only one season. Fellow teammate, Diego Carlos also departsafter just one season with the islanders. The winger had 2 goals and 2 assists to his name last season.
All the other players who have been let go by Mumbai City FC, have been a part of the club for a long time. Davinder Singh and Kunal Sawant are leaving the club after spending three seasons with the islanders. Other players who have parted their ways with the club are Mohammad Rafique, Alen Deory, mato Grgic, Serge Kevyn, Surchandra Singh and Keenan Almeida.
Mumbai City FC made a deal with the City Football Group in November 2019. City Football group bought a majority 65% stake in the football club. This made the club financially powerful and that has been evident in their 2020/21 signings. Mumbai City FC bought in Hugo Boumous from FC Goa for a price of 1.5 crore rupees. The attacking midfielder representing FC goa until last season, has scored 16 goals and assisted 16 times in the 37 games he has played so far in the Hero ISL.
Mumbai City FC have also signed Adam Le Fondre on a year long loan deal from Sydney FC. The English forward will bring in loads of experience along with him having played in English Championship and A-League before. The Islanders have also made numerous other loan signings bringing in Cy Goddard and Hernan Santana from Benevento in Italy and Sporting Gijon in Spain respectively. Meanwhile, Mohammad Rakip, Ahmed Jahouh and Mourtada Fall have been roped in from Kerala Blasters, and FC Goa on a free transfer.
