WIFA Women’s Inter District Championship (Open): Jalgaon, Osmanabad and Palghar win

High scoring matches were seen on day 1 of the WIFA Women’s Inter-District Championship held at Jalgaon.

The opening encounter was between Jalgaon and Washim, where Jalgaon didn’t allow Washim to even enter their half. The opening goal was scored by Jalgaon at 1st minute itself, and then they were unstoppable. Constant pressure was the key to Jalgaon’s success, they scored eight goals in the first half where both the strikers Subhadra and Poornima were fantastic. The game ended as Jalgaon 9-0 Washim, as Prajakta the wonder substitute came and scored the last two goals.

In the next match, Osmanabad played a thrilling game against Nashik, where Osmanabad scored the only goal in the match. Swati Telang scored the goal on the 21st minute in the second half. In the second half, Nashik continued doing counter-attacks but the entire Osmanabad team was on defence. In the process of stopping Nashik, Sakshi Gaurav on the defence got a yellow card for her aggressive tackle.

Palghar clinched a comfortable victory against Dhule in the third encounter of the day. Palghar showed a dominant performance as they scored 3 times in the first half, all the three goals were scored by the captain Tanvi Patil with her exceptional goal-scoring skills. In the second half, Palghar got a penalty on the 31st minute, and striker Shrutika Thakur successfully shot the ball in the net. Tanvi again added to the list by scoring the last goal of the game. The entire match was played on the Dhule’shalf, Palghar maintained most of the possession.

In the final match, Wardha got a walkover against Aurangabad.
