GMSC and Dena Bank records crucial win

22nd February 2019, Mumbai: On Friday, a combined of two MDFA Elite Division (Corporate Group) games were held at the Cooperage Stadium, In an early kick-off, GMSC played PIFA, whereas, in the afternoon game, Dena Bank encountered M.S Police. An amazing display saw GMSC defeating PIFA 3-0 while Dena Bank outwitted M.S Police 2-0 to seal a crucial win.

GMSC (Sudhakar 8′ & 72′ and Sanath 66′) 3-0 PIFA

In an entertaining clash, two underdogs, GMSC and PIFA met each other on an early Friday morning. Right from the kick-off, GMSC played with a clear mindset. An early goal changes the whole dimension of the game and that’s what Jeddy Almeida’s side executed it accurately.

In the 8th minute itself, GMSC found themselves ahead with Sudhakar on the scoresheet. PIFA didn’t panic and started to gain momentum but GMSC stood firm and composed at the back to shield their lead. With the game still hanging in balance, GMSC doubled their lead through Sanath in the 66th minute.

Sanath not only increased the lead but broke PIFA’s momentum. Twelve minutes later, Sudhakar got his brace and GMSC’s third to seal the match 3-0.

Dena Bank (Svilzor Pinto and Denzil Mascarenhas) 2-0 M.S Police

In the second match of the day, Dena Bank rode on a brilliant second-half display to overcome M.S Police 2-0. After an evenly-poised first-half, M.S Police’s game plan to sit back and soak pressure turned out to be fatal.

Dena Bank’s forwards Arafat Ansari and Denzil Mascarenhas kept roaming around the penalty box throughout the game and made life difficult for M.S Police defense with their brilliant positioning and game sense. Midfielder Anup Singh, Versatile Piyush Koli, and Rakshit Pillai were on their top form to outwit the Polices.

At the stroke of half-time, the Bankers was awarded a penalty when Deepak Patil caught Denzil with a rough tackle. But goalkeeper Satish Kanojiya stayed calm and composed to parry away Denzil’s spot kick. In the second-half, Dena Bank started brightly and their efforts quickly paid off.

Substitute Svilzor Pinto scored a stunning left-footer from outside the box to break the deadlock. Satish Kanojia stretched to his limits but couldn’t manage to get his hands on a venomous curling effort. Moments later, Denzil made up for his penalty miss with a sensational solo strike from a tight angle.

M.S Police got tired as the game progressed and couldn’t get past a resilient Dena Bank defense. Overall, it was a courageous display by the Bankers who took their chances against a very experience M.S.P team.
