HERO I-LEAGUE: Late Singh goal helps Bagan beat Aizawl

Aizawl, February 16, 2019: Bikramjit Singh’s goal gave Mohun Bagan their seventh win in the 12th Hero I-League as they beat Aizawl FC 2- 1 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Saturday.

Ugandan forward Henry Kisekka put the Green and Maroons ahead with an early strike. Former Bagan man Ansumana Kromah drew Aizawl level on the half-hour mark. Bagan left it late as defender Singh hit home the winner with just 12 minutes of regulation time left.

This win secures Bagan’s place in sixth in the league table as they draw level with Neroca FC. The Manipuri club is ahead on goal difference.

Bagan boss Khalid Jamil adopted attacking tactics in search of an early goal. Kisekka latched on to Abinash Ruidas’ free-kick and scored in the 22nd minute.

Kromah lined up a shot from outside the Bagan penalty area and sent it into the bottom corner. 1-1 to Aizawl eight minutes after conceding!

Jamil brought Egyptian Omar Elhussieny for veteran Mehtab Hossain in the second half to add more creativity in the middle. Bikramjit Singh hit home Sony Norde’s freekick and gave Bagan the winner late in the second half.

Jamil brought on Darren Caldeira for Kisekka to bolster the back-line as Aizawl went full throttle.

Bagan held on and won!
