MDFA Elite Division: Dena Bank and Bombay Gymkhana hits the jackpot

16th February 2019, Mumbai: In the last couple of days, three MDFA Elite Division matches took place. At the Western Railway Ground, Dena Bank played Western Railway and Bombay Gymkhana encountered Rhema. At Cooperage, Kenkre FC met Companeros.

Dena Bank and Bombay Gymkhana had the last laugh against Western Railway and Rhema respectively while Companeros held Kenkre FC in a cagey affair.

Dena Bank (Rohnit Jain) 1-0 Western Railway

Dena Bank shocked the host Western Railway 1-0 on Friday afternoon to take all three points. The Bankers headed towards the game being the underdogs. Little did the Railways knew how hard Dena Bank would punish them.

It was Rohnit Jain who opened the scoring in the 8th minute for Dena Bank. The plan was perfectly executed as Western Railway struggled to penetrate through their counterparts backline.

The Bankers defended the solitary lead with an excellent man-marking. The Railways had absolutely no answer as Dena Bank ran out as winners.

Companeros (Yash Angre 2′) 1-1 Kenkre FC (Kamran Siddiqui 79′)

Companeros gave a courageous effort against Kenkre FC to salvage a 1-1 draw in the Elite Division (Private Group).

After defending brilliantly for almost the whole game, Companeros conceded late but the result and the performance should be encouraging enough to move forward.

Yash Angre’s second-minute strike was canceled out by Kamran Siddiqui’s well-timed finish in the 79th minute.

Bombay Gymkhana 9-1 Rhema

On Thursday, Bombay Gymkhana and Rhema faced each other in what turned out to be a one-sided game. The Gymkhana carried their previous display against Bombay Muslims to thrash Rhema 9-1. An outstanding attacking display.

Striker Farzaad Dastoor broke the deadlock early into the game. His positioning and reading have been immense in the last couple of the games as he is turning out to be lethal in front of the goal.

Moments later, Vikas Narkar and Siddhant Pinto scored two quick goals to increase Gymkhana’s lead to three goals but Rhema responded shortly with a beautiful strike.

Vishal Singh who had assisted the previous two goals made a brilliant move to score Gymkhana’s fourth of the game.

In the second-half, Rushad Parboo, Vishal Singh, Yash Choudhary (2), and Shrey Grover contributed to Gymkhana’s goal-tally to complete a resounding 9-1 victory.
