Super Division: Veigas double rolls the dice in Atlanta’s favor
Mumbai, February 12, 2019: Royston Veigas stepped up for Gaurav Nagarkatti as the former scored a clinical brace to help Atlanta beat SBI 3-2 at the Neville D’Souza Ground on Tuesday.
The lanky striker scored in the 16th and 26th minutes respectively and put Atlanta in the driver’s seat.
Ashish Chavan made it 3-0 in the 36th minute to round off a superb performance. SBI crumbled within the half-hour mark and couldn’t cope with Atlanta’s attacking game. Bretty Stewart pulled a goal back for SBI in the 44th minute to make it 3-1 at half time.
SBI gave Atlanta an almighty scare as the second half was a complete contrast to the first. Stewart probed and probed for a goal and Shanabaj Kazi put on a rock-solid performance at the back for SBI. Atlanta took the foot off the pedal and relied on the counter-attack.
Jaybalan Nadar superbly dispossessed Sachin Kumawat inside the Atlanta box and gave fans something to cheer about! Suraj Suvarna scored a second goal for SBI in the 79th minute and frayed Atlanta’s nerves!
Atlanta goalkeeper Ankit Dalvi produced two superb saves off Imran Khan and Kumawat in the dying moments.
