Bombay Gymkhana hammers Bombay Muslims 3-1

Bombay Gymkhana

9th February 2019, Mumbai: On Saturday afternoon, Bombay Gymkhana and Bombay Muslims met in an entertaining MDFA Elite Division (Private Group) clash at the Cooperage Stadium. The Gymkhana’s clinical display in front of the goal helped them to secure a comprehensive 3-1 win.

With this win, Bombay Gymkhana made a huge leap in the Private Group standings. Prior to the game, they were 13th in the table. The 3-1 result has brought them up to 7th with six points in five games. Meanwhile, Bombay Muslims is yet to show any signs of consistency this season as their poor form continues.

Both the sides took their time to settle into the game. Gymkhana’s superior midfield in terms of physicality and technique. Jordin Braganza, Porus, and Pratik Patil made sure to link the backline and midfield.

Bombay Gymkhana’s resilience finally paid off in the 42nd minute. Dhruv Pargai received the possession outside the box, took a couple of strides, and unleashed a powerful shot which nestled past the hapless goalkeeper.

The goal turned out to be crucial. There is a huge psychological advantage when a team scores at the stroke of half-time. In the second half, Bombay Gymkhana came out fresh and had a clear motive than Bombay Muslims.

Bombay Muslims was dispossessed for most of the times, be it in the final third or in the midfield. This helped Suresh Mendon’s side to break the play and launch a counter-attack. In the 68th minute, Vishal Singh made a splendid move in the final third to set up Farzaad Dastoor.

Beating the offside trap, Farzaad received the ball inside the box and calmly placed his effort into the goal to make it 2-0. Furthermore, Bombay Muslims seemed out of ideas.

Gymkhana’s third and final goal was nothing short of an exquisite finish. Pratik Patil showed great composure on the ball, danced past three defenders, and found the net with a brilliant right-footed finish.

Bombay Muslims did cut short the deficit. In the injury time, Shlok Pable converted from the spot but it was too late as Gymkhana ran out as 3-1 winners.
