Parth Mhatre powers Worli S.C to a victory over Jeevis S.C

Worli Sports Club rode on a Parth Mhatre brace to register a comfortable 3-0 win over Jeevis Sports Club in a Group J encounter of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) 3rd Division held at the Karnataka Sporting Association ground on Tuesday morning.

The game was reduced to fifteen minutes per half due to the delay in the start and the scorching heat also being a factor.

Despite the heat & humidity, Worli played with a great tempo which was matched by Jeevis S.C, but the Worlikars hit the front through a Parth Mhatre strike just four minutes into the game.

The goal gave Worli the impetus to dominate the game and created plenty of chances. Jeevis had their share of chances too, Worli looked sharper of the two sides.

Their sharpness was rewarded as Worli doubled their lead at the stroke of half time with Parth Mhatre netting his second goal of the morning putting Worli S.C firmly in control at half time.

Worli showed their superiority again in the second half controlling most of the play. Sumesh Nair was unlucky not to add Worli’s third in the 22nd minute when his free kick did not dip enough to beat the Jeevis goalkeeper. It was a brilliant strike from Sumesh Nair from the deadball situation.

A minute later, Worli robbed Jeevis on the half line, releasing Parth Mhatre on goal whose chipped effort over the goalkeeper went centimetres over the crossbar. Parth Mhatre was unlucky not to be claiming the match all after narrowly missing out on a hat-trick.

Worli S.C. defender Jacob nearly handed Jeevis a life line in the 24th minute when his attempted clearance bounced onto the upright before bouncing out and allowing Jacob to clear the danger.

The nearly moment gave Jeevis the belief as they finished the game strongly forcing Worli S.C to some last ditch defending.

But Worli S.C had the last laugh when Sankey Gawde finished off a crisp move in stoppage time to add the icing on the cake for Worli S.C.

Worli deservedly ran out 3-0 winners against a Jeevis side who weren’t at their races on the day.
