WCG Rink football: Ryan D’Silva nets 2 in St. Joseph’s win

Powered by Ryan D’Silva’s twin strikes, St. Joseph’s ‘A’, Juhu charged to a comfortable 4-1 win against St. Francis Xavier, Kanjur Marg in a Men’s Open third round match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organized 31st Inter-Parish 5-a-side Rink Football Tournament – 2018 for the Victor D’Mello Trophy and played under floodlights at the gymkhana’s tennis courts.
St. Joseph’s who dominated play throughout scored the other two goals through the efforts of Abrar Shaikh and Deepak Singh to seal the win and a passage to the next round.
In another Men’s Open third round match, St. Vincent Pallotti ‘A, Marol rode on the double strikes from Melwin Vaz to snatch a close 4-3 win against St. Anthony’s ‘B’, Malwani . Ashton Dias and John Fernandes scored a goal each to complete the winning tally for the Marol side, while a fighting St. Anthony’s scored through Suraj Bhagat, Jackson Koli and Chris Pires.
Meanwhile, in an interesting Veteran Men’s Open encounter, Flamingoes SC got the better of Our Lady of Fatima, Vidya Vihar by a thirilling 5-4 scoreline. For the winning side, strikes Vernon Correa and Ronald Mendonca both got a brace of goals each and Jeff Bathija netted one to secure their win while for the losing side Peter Pereira scored two and Nitin Kotian and Maxi Serrao got one each.
Results – Open Veterans: Flamingoes SC 5 (Vernon Correa 2, Ronald Mendonca 2, Jeff Bathija 1) beat Our Lady of Fatima, Vidya Vihar 4 (Peter Pereira 2, Nitin Kotian 1, Maxi Serrao 1).
Spartans Green 2 (Reggie Pereira 1, Sheldon Nunes 1) beat ABC, Malad 1 (Peter Cyrian 1).
Men’s third round: St. Joseph’s ‘A’, Juhu 4 (Ryan D’Silva 2, Abrar Shaikh 1, Deepak Singh 1) beat St. Francis Xavier, Kanjur Marg 1 (Krishna Vijayan).
St. Vincent Pallotti ‘A, Marol 4 (Melwin Vaz 2, Ashton Dias 1, John Fernandes 1) beat St. Anthony’s ‘B’, Malwani 3 (Suraj Bhagat 1, Jackson Koli 1, Chris Pires 1).
