It is like a dream come true: Abhishek Ambeker

He had received offers from few other ISL and I-League clubs but decided to join his dream team, Mohun Bagan.

Minerva Punjab amazed the Indian Football fraternity when they defied the odds to become the eventual champions of I-League, outsmarting giants like East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Neroca in the process. The club, under the guidance of Khogen Singh, displayed sheer grit to overcome the obstacles they had faced throughout the tournament.

The club didn’t have high-budget for recruiting players, but had a group of players, who were willing to put everything they had, on the ground. Abhishek Ambekar, hailing from Maharashtra, was a vital cog in Minerva’s armoury. The 26-year-old former Air India starlet was a regular in the squad, and dazzled everyone with his performance as a wing back.

Abhishek did a commendable job for Minerva

His marauding runs and blitz through the flanks were too difficult for the opponents to nullify and it caused chaos in the opposition half. He was sturdy and tenacious and contributed defensively to the team. He managed to make 16 appearances for Minerva in the league and his impressive performances had caught the eyes of few ISL and I-League clubs.

However, he has decided to join his dream team, Mohun Bagan, we have learnt. Talking to Football Counter about his move, Abhishek said, “During my childhood days when I had Just started playing football, I had heard about Mohun Bagan. My memories have been filled by the greatness of the club, being one of the oldest and best clubs in Asia. I had in my dreams thought about being a part of the club. It is now just like a dream come true,”

Abhishek Ambeker with the I-League trophy

“I have been part of various I-League clubs in my football career. However, being a part of Mohun Bagan is what I have been always looking forward to. First of all, it is one of most sought-after clubs in India and secondly, it will be a feather in my cap to be a part of them and I shall be proud to be playing for them and showcasing my talent,” revealed Ambekar.

Mohun Bagan have already roped in many players ahead of the next season and are looking to emerge triumphant in the next season. Abhishek’s inclusion will undoubtedly bolster the team.
