5 talking points as India clinch the Intercontinental Cup

Sunil Chhetri and Co. displayed an inspiring performance to clinch the Intercontinental Cup

In what was another action-packed 90 minutes, India surpassed the Kenyan test to emerge as the winners of the Intercontinental Cup, courtesy of a Sunil Chhetri brace.

India, right from the start, looked comfortable and dominant and never played like an inferior army. Sunil Chhetri and Co. capitalized on the opportunities they got, while the India defence curbed away the attempts made by the Harambee Stars.

India, with the victory, made sure their preparations for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup are going the right way and has signalled their intentions in the upcoming tournament. Stephen Constantine, too, gave opportunities to new stars, and those stars rose to the occasion and have already become integral parts of this crew.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at 5 talking points as India clinched the Intercontinental Cup.

India’s attack starts from the defence

India’s defence was superb against Kenya in the Intercontinental Cup. Sandesh Jhingan and Anas Edathodika marshalled the defence, leaving no space. Both the Kerala Blasters’ players were at their usual best and denied the Kenyans the time and space.

However, it was not just to the defence they contributed. They threaded through balls and long balls to the attackers. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu had many shots that helped India create attacking opportunities.

Sandesh Jhingan and Anas Edathodika were dominant in the air and helped India win aerial duels against the robust Kenyan side. They used their physique against the Kenyan side, that used the same to create opportunities. An eye for an eye, right?
