I don’t choose Argentina as a favourite – Maradona
Maradona said he would advise Messi to keep playing
The FIFA World Cup starts on 1 June, and like all other editions, Argentina are one of the favourites to emerge as the triumphant side in the quadrennial event. Argentina were close to clinching the trophy last time, but were defeated by Germany in the final. However, they are determined to go one better this time.
Argentina and Messi have already given an alarm to the opponents, as they thrashed Haiti 4-0, courtesy of a Messi hat-trick. They would be eager to continue the same performance in the World Cup.
“I would advise Messi to keep playing, to enjoy the game,”Argentinan football legend Maradona told Omnisport, as per FourFourTwo.
“I don’t know [coach Jorge] Sampaoli, I don’t know how he plays. But, I know a lot of the players and I know they will give everything. And I think they have a good opportunity to win. But I don’t choose [Argentina] as a favourite because the favourite one never wins.” said Maradona.
Argentina will play against Israel on Friday as part of their World Cup preparations, and Messi and Co. would be eager to continue their current form. Argentina are clubbed with Croatia, Nigeria and Iceland.
