PIFA Colaba’s solid defense stops UBI in a 0-0 draw

5th March 2018, Mumbai: On Monday evening, high-flying Union Bank of India (UBI) encountered a resilient PIFA Colaba side in MDFA Elite Division side at Cooperage Stadium. PIFA Colaba’s solid backline and a spectacular display by goalkeeper Vivek Tiwari secured them a crucial point in a goalless draw.

Union Bank of India (UBI) headed into the match on the back of a solid win while PIFA Colaba suffered a narrow loss at the hands of Western Railway in the month of December. A win here would have helped UBI to leapfrog Western Railway who are third in the Elite Division table.

UBI had a great first half, not as great as PIFA’s stubborn defense. Sushant Jadhav, Ankush Pradhan, Neel Shah, Sushil Tawde and Shaunak Ghorpade had a wonderful time at the back as they kept UBI’s attack at bay. The likes of Scott D’Souza, Ranjeet Pandre and Bryce Miranda was kept quiet for the majority of the game.

Goalkeeper Vivek Tiwari made some terrific saves in the first half which kept PIFA Colaba in the game. In the second half, he spectacularly denied Ranjeet Pandre from three yards with his feet. Although Ranjeet could have done better as Vivek was already wrong-footed while the UBI’s striker took his attempt.

Bryce Miranda, who is lately in a hot form was heavily man-marked throughout the game by either Neel Shah or Sushant Jadhav. On the other end, PIFA didn’t create several chances but they kept the game at a steady pace while having the ball possession.

The draw has clearly boosted PIFA Colaba’s confidence as they will further look to garner crucial points to stay far from the relegation zone. Meanwhile, UBI must improve in the opposition box as they wasted several huge opportunities to kill the game.
