Payyade humbles Miners FC while Datta Krida Mandal upsets Mother Teresa FC in a day of surprises!

4th February 2018, Mumbai: Five MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) matches took place yesterday, here, at St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel. ICL Payyade humbled Miners FC 4-0 in 1st division while in 3rd division play-off matches Jurdean FC defeated Koli Samaj Housing Soc. 4-1 and Future Stars held Om Saidham Seva to a stalemate. In second division matches, Das FA and Datta Krida Mandal(FFA) picked up win over TPS and Mother Teresa FC respectively in their groups, in a day filled with surprises.
3rd Div. Group C play-off : Future Star Academy 0 – 0 Om Saidham Seva Mandal
It was again the occasion for 3rd division play-off, group C match when group toppers when Future Star Academy met Om Saidham Seva Mandal in the final match of the group. While OSSM needed a huge victory to retain any dreams of qualifying further, Future Stars wanted to avoid any sort of upset as even a point could’ve sufficed to their hunger of proceeding further.First ten minutes went by with both the teams testing out each other’s defence, but in vain. Both the team looked cautious from the word go, bringing on occasional attacks, only after ensuring the safety in their own half. Surprisingly, though OSSV played a much higher backline; in the period between 10-15 minutes on the clock, they had to deal with incisive runs from both sides; right one being the more penetrating. Soon the first chance came through right only, when Nandadeep, Rudolf and Rohit combined well to breach the OMSS defence only to shot it wide. Rohit was the mainstay of all the counter attacks pounced on by FSA as he provided the best chance for them when he inflicted a brilliant through to Tushar but couldn’t beat the OMSS keeper. OMSS raised the bar in the second half as they dominated the ball possession with Savio Gracious and Atul displaying impressive ball control in the midfield as they distributed the ball with high precision. Darshan Jadhav was also impressive for OMSS but unfortunately couldn’t break down the defence quartet of Future Star Academy. Both teams settled with 1 point each as the result can see Future Star qualify with 5 points from 3 matches finishing behind United Villagers while for OMSS it might mean the end of this season, which otherwise has been a mixed campaign for them, as they finish ahead of KSA U-17 in the third spot owing to better goal difference after being tied with 2 points each.
1st division group A- ICL Payyade S.C (Michael 48’,55’, Nico 16’,30’) 4-0 Miners FC
Earlier in the day in an exciting 1st division group A match, the group toppers Miners FC were handed their first defeat by ICL Payyade. Twin braces from Michael and Nico Gonsalves were enough to inflict an ignominious 4-0 humiliation of Miners FC, who had a 5 match unbeaten streak until this match as they were the leader of the chart with 13 points. Though they still manage to stay unchanged at the top, ICL Payyade sent out a loud and clear message that they’re not far behind as they notched up their 4th victory from 5 matches and now breathes heavy on Miners at the second spot with 12 points.
3rd Division Playoff group D – Judean United SC 4-1 Koli Samaj Housing Society
In a crucial 3rd division play-off match in group D, Judean United SC thrashed Koli Samaj Housing Soc. 4-1, in what was the final match of both the teams in this stage from this group. It was an ill-tempered match as the reports suggest temper flew out of control after the match as this scoreline means Judean United SC can finish on their current 2nd spot if O’Sheish Football club couldn’t manage to defeat Alfresco FC in the decider of this group. Koli Samaj Housing Soc is all but out of the contention for qualification as they finish their campaign with 1 point from 3 matches in the last position.
2nd Division group A – Das Football Academy A (Vishal 6’,Erhard 38’) 2-0 T.P.S (Grey Athletic)
In 2nd division group A fixture Das Football Academy continued their domination in this group with another victory, this time against mid-table T.P.S. Vishal Belani put Das FA ahead in the 6th minute before Erhard Fernandes struck the final goal of the match at 38th min. With this win, Das FA leapfrogged to the top position improving on their 3rd spot prior to this match as they now have 14 points from 7 matches while TPS stay static at 5th position with 7 points in as many matches.
2nd Division group F : Datta Krida Mandal (FFA) (Razmi 24’, 41’) 2-1 Mother Teresa FC (Viraj 2’)
In another group F match in 2nd division, Datta Krida Mandal(FFA) rallied back from behind to upset Mother Teresa FC 2-1. Viraj More opened the scoring in the second minute of the match to put MTFC ahead but a beautiful brace by Razmi Thakur in 24th and 41st minute caused another upset in a day filled with surprises. Although this match didn’t affect the standings as MTFC stays at 2nd spot with 15 points from 7 matches while DKM improves on their points tally to 10 from 6 matches in 6th position.
