Azzure, Baze & KNFC triumphs in Sellebrity Premier League 2018

5th February 2018, Mumbai: The first edition of Sellebrity Premier League (SPL) concluded in grand style as Bandra witnessed some of the thrilling and exciting matches yesterday at Supari Talao Ground in Bandra. The four-day (27th-28th January and 3rd-4th February) tournament which was organised by the Sellebrity’s Geoffrey Menezes had gone underway on 27th January. Azzure, Baze and KNFC held their nerves in their respective finals to clinch a prestigious trophy in the first ever Sellebrity Premier League (SPL).

The likes of Former India International Steven Dias, Father Meji, Cornel Gonsalves, Dr. Sheryl Misquitta and Tony D. (Football Enthusiast) were felicitated by the Sellebrity Family prior to the trophy presentations.

Here is how final day folded:

Open Category

Semis: Azzure 0-0 Carmelites (Azzure won 5-3 via penalties) and Millat FC 0-0 St. Jude (Millat FC won 4-2 via penalties)

Both the men’s semi-final had to be decided on penalties after the match ended goalless in normal time. Azzure superbly kept their cool in the penalties where Goalkeeper Manish Shetty denied Carmelites in the process to book their place in the final. Meanwhile, Millat FC’s Goalkeeper Aatif saved twice in the penalties to help his side to set up a date with Azzure in the final of Sellebrity Premier League (SPL) 2018 Open Category final.

Final: Azzure 0-0 Millat FC (Azzure won 4-2 via penalties)

In the normal time, both the energetic outfits had enough opportunities to break the deadlock but it seemed that the pressure of the final was too much for both these sides to take. The final went into the penalties where Azzure edged Millat FC 4-2 to clinch the Open Category’s title. Once again it was Manish Shetty’s brilliance in the penalty shootout as he stood firm and composed to save twice.

Best Player: David D’Souza (Azzure)

U-16 Boys (Final): Amigos 0-0 KNFC (KNFC won 4-2 via penalties)

The U-16 Boys final was a lively encounter where Amigos and KNFC played their hearts out to display one of the best matches of the tournament. The dedication and grit showed by both the set of players were astonishing. KNFC’s Goalkeeper Amaan saved two penalties to help his side lift the U-16 Boys title.

Best Player: Kunal Jagtap (KNFC)

Best Promising Player: AJ Furtado

Girls (Final): Baze 0-0 Companeroes (Baze won via toss after the match ended 4-4 in penalties)

An end-to-end match which concluded in a fascinating manner. With both the sides locked at 0-0 in normal time, the final went to penalties where once again they were not able to get separated. After confronting both the teams, the final was decided on a toss where Baze was adjudged as the winner of Girls category.

Best Player: Jhanvi Shetty (Baze)
