Bombay YMCA win big while TSG and Lakers FC draws

22nd January 2018, Mumbai: On Monday afternoon, two MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Second Division games took place at the St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel. In the first match, The Sports Gurukul faced Lakers FC while Bombay YMCA encountered Godrej & Boyce in the final and second match of the day. Bombay YMCA rose to the occasion to thump Godrej, whereas, TSG and Lakers FC settled for a point.

Group B: The Sports Gurukul (Suraj Epili 45′) 1-1 Lakers FC (Anshul Gawade 55′)

Lakers FC’s undefeated run stayed intact as they held TSG (The Sports Gurukul) 1-1 in an eventful Second Division encounter at St. Xavier’s Ground. After this crucial draw, Lakers FC has cemented their place in the second place of Group B who are just behind Vision Rescue on goal difference.

After a steady start, The Sports Gurukul broke the deadlock in the 45th minute through Suraj Epili’s thunderous finish. But Lakers FC bounced back in the second-half when Anshul Gawade equalized ten minutes into the second-half to make it 1-1. Both the sides had to settle for a point, in the end, to round off an eventful Group B match.

Group G: Bombay YMCA (Rayyan Ansari 33′, Arshad Ansari 43′, Kazim Sayyed 59′, Abdul Shaikh 66′ and Mazhar Ansari 70′) 5-1 Godrej & Boyce (Pizan Kodia 44′)

In the second and final game of the day, an in-form Bombay YMCA side thumped Godrej & Boyce 5-1 to win their fourth match of the campaign and continue their five-match unbeaten streak. Bombay YMCA is third with 12 points in Group G while Godrej & Boyce is sixth with seven points.

After an eventful start, the deadlock was broken in the 33rd minute when Rayyan Ansari opened the scoring with a sublime strike. Ten minutes later, Arshad Ansari doubled Bombay YMCA’s lead with a close-range finish just before the break.

But Godrej & Boyce’s striker Pizan Kodia cut short the deficit just a minute later to give his side a ray of hope in the second-half. After the break, Bombay YMCA put the game beyond doubt after Kazim Sayyed, Abdul Shaikh and Mazhar Ansari scored three quick goals to complete a resounding victory.
