Karnataka Sporting Association (KSA) left it very late to hold Union Bank of India (UBI) to a 1-1 draw in a MDFA Elite Division match at Cooperage on 15th March 2015. KSA had the better of the game but had to wait till the final minute of stoppage time for their reward.

UBI were in action for the first time since the break while KSA were coming off a narrow defeat at the hands of PIFA Colaba in their final game.

KSA got off to the worst possible start when a horrible mix up in the defence allowed Manish Koli to pounce and fire past Kishan Sulegai as UBI went ahead in the 3rd minute.

Despite suffering an early blow, KSA were able to gather their thoughts and avoid further damage. KSA then began to seize control of the game and close to an equaliser when Roger Sam let fly only to see his effort go over the crossbar in the 16th minute.

KSA should have been level on 22 minutes when Arihi Uchela failed to deflect the pass from a free kick goalwards inspire of being six yards out.

But Arihi Uchela was to miss more opportunities for KSA in the 29 and 45th minutes after he failed to convert despite being in space inside the UBI box on both the occasions.

UBI hardly threatened after scoring early on but managed to hold on to the lead till half time as KSA didn’t seem to have their scoring boots on.

UBI looked much more sharper in the second period but KSA continued to dominate the ball.

But KSA failed to make their dominance count and UBI continued to thwart them.

UBI nearly doubled their lead in the 83rd minute when they broke though the right flank but were denied by Kishan Sulegai.

KSA threw Faique Ansari in place of Ryan Kolarikkal couple of minutes later in a bid to rescue a point. But KSA had looked flat in the second half and constant stoppages didn’t help their cause.

But just as we thought UBI had done enough to secure the points, Arihi Uchela popped up for KSA in the third minute of stoppage time as he latched on to a loose ball to finish brilliantly from a tight angle.

That was the last piece of action as referee blew for full time.

KSA thoroughly deserved the point after being the better team for most parts of the game.
