WIFA Women’s Championship to go underway from 23rd June

WIFA
20th June 2017, Mumbai: On 23rd June 2017, a new dawn is set to embark in the Women’s Football as AIFF (All India Football Federation) along with WIFA (Western India Football Association) have initiated a Women’s Championship, sponsored by Enerzal, which will comprise of eight teams across Maharashtra.
Two months ago, as a part of the ‘FIFA-AIFF State Development Project’, WIFA State Youth Championship was organised for boys at Cooperage Stadium. Over 16 clubs from Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Nashik and Solapur participated which itself was the first edition.
The tournament gathered huge attention from locals as well as from media and more importantly it proved out to be a success. Post State Youth Championship, AIFF has now decided to go ahead with Women’s Championship which will not only boost Women’s Football in Maharashtra, but it will also set up a huge platform for all the girls to showcase their talent and skills.
The Women’s Football should be equally promoted and invested on. In the recent years, the number of Women’s Football Tournament has been increased rapidly. The same must be kept on growing as Women play a major part too towards the beautiful game.
The forthcoming WIFA Women’s Championship will be held at the iconic Cooperage Stadium, the same venue where WIFA State Youth Championship was held earlier this summer. Over eight teams from four districts are divided into two pools with each group consisting of four teams.
