Miners FC dig deep to beat Goans S.A, Sagar FC beat KSP Hydro

MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association)

Mumbai: Miners FC defeated Goans SA by 2-0 in their Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA), First Division, Group D match held at St Xavier’s Ground, Parel, on Sunday evening, 2nd April 2017.

This Group D match was the first to be played under the floodlights on a Super Sunday evening and it was the Miners who got the better of the GOANS! Well, to say the least, they had to dig really deep and grind out this win.

Prashant Singh put the Miners FC in front in the 39th minute. With a disciplined backline from both teams until then, the Miners stood firm and capitalised on their chance in the final third. There were no more goals in the 1st half.

The second half was more or less like the first half. Both teams looked to go forward with purpose. GOANS looked for their equaliser. But again it was the Miners team who held firm and scored the second goal in the 75th minute. Deepak Sharma scoring the goal to give his team all three points.

The final game under the floodlights was also a tight one. Some end to end stuff in the match. But add to that the resolute defending made it much more interesting. There were very clear cut chances. It was Sagar FC who took theirs and won the match. Harshad Meher scored in the 45th minute and Yogendra Meher scored in the 49th minute to put clear daylight between the two teams and get all three points.
