MDFA: 1st Division Standings
The Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Division 1 is the third-tier of the Mumbai League, currently comprising of 50 teams, divided across six groups (A, B, C, D, E & F) for its on-going 2016-17 season. We look at, how the teams began their season and what is in store for everyone, as the tables begin to take shape. We will bring to you a detailed summary of Division 1 Groups matches till **05-November-2016.
Group A:
A total of 32 matches have been played across group ‘A’; with over 40 matches are yet to be played, Jupiter and Vailankanni Boys are on top with 10 points and a goal difference of 8 and 7, respectively. Just four points separate the remaining 5 teams, with IDBI and Rhema Sports Foundation ‘B’ yet to play a match.
IDBI are yet to record a win, inside three matches into the season, and without a goal – conceding 7 goals in the process. Coach P.S Suvarna’s side are at the bottom of the table with a goal difference of -7. Their three losses came against Jupiter, Sterling Das and Sea View. Meanwhile, Rhema Sports Foundation ‘B’ have failed to register a single-point on the table, too. Despite scoring in each of their three matches, Rhema were left sort against Vailankanni Boys, Mumbai Port Trust and Kenkre under-17. They are a position above IDBI with a slightly better goal difference of -5.
Sterling Das F.A’s only win in four matches has come against IDBI, as an Ajinkya Sawant goal separated the two sides at the full-time whistle. The side failed to register a win in their following three match, as Sterling Das faced defeats to the hands of Vailankanni Boys, Mumbai Port Trust and Bombay F.C. Currently the side marginally rests on 3 points just above the bottom two teams.
With 1 win, 2 losses and a draw, Bombay F.C have managed to attain 4 points from 4 matches. They registered the heaviest loss in group ‘A’ thus far, a 6-2 defeat against Jupiter. Kenkre under-17 remain amongst the unbeaten sides, with 1 win and 2 draws, scoring 5 and conceding 4 goals in the process.
Sea View S.C is a point behind Mumbai Port with a game in hand on 6 points, with the latter on 7 points. Sea View S.C has a glorious chance to go ahead in this neck-to-neck tie with a win in their next match, edging closer to the top-2 spot. The journey for Jupiter and Vailankanni Boys has been satisfying, as both sides have recorded 3 wins and a draw, respectively, from their four matches played.
Group B:
With four wins out of four, Carmelites F.C leads the group ‘B’ table with twelves points; scoring nine goals, and not conceding a single goal in their four matches. Their four wins came against Soccer A to Z, Dadar XI, IC United and Bad Boys. The table toppers are yet to host second-place Atlanta F.C, who are two points behind the leaders, with a better goal-difference of +11 to Carmelites’ +9.
On the opposite end of the table, IC United and Bad Boys are yet to record points on board, suffering three defeats from their respective three matches. Bad Boys have failed to score a goal in the current campaign, whereas IC United is amongst the least goal-scoring sides in the group, with just one goal in 240 minutes of play. Bad Boys’ suffered defeats against Atlanta, Carmelites and Franco, while IC United were beaten by Atlanta, ICL and leaders Carmelites.
Indian Culture League holds a strong position in group ‘B’ with 7 points from three matches, a win in their next match will take them level on points Atlanta, who have already played their fourth game. ICL’s nearest competitor sits four points behind them, in Franco F.C, who have an upper hand to chance the shape of the table, as the side has just played one match and won, beating Bad Boys in a 1-0 win.
Madanpura F.C and Dadar XI are on a point from two and three matches, respectively. Madanpura suffered the heaviest loss of till now, as they were comprehensively outclassed by Atlanta F.C in a 7-0 win. They earned a 1-1 draw in their other group ‘B’ match against Soccer A to Z. Fellow strugglers, Dadar XI are yet to make a mark as they suffered two losses in which they failed to score, and a 2-2 versus Soccer A to Z.
Group C:
In a closely-knit group – group ‘C’ – the top placed side is separated by seventh placed by three points; Steadfast (A), Vidya Vikasini Theresians and Wellingdon Catholic Gym are all tied at 6 points, having played 2, 3 and 3 matches, respectively. Meanwhile, D.K Pharma and Veniza Virar F.C share 4 points each. Rhino F.C and St. Joseph are on three points with Sahyadri Krida Mandal and Blitz Kriez yet to make a breakthrough in the season, and remain at the bottom on without any points.
Steadfast (A) managed two wins out of two as and has a upper hand to take an early lead going into the season. For Vidya Vikasini Theresians and Wellingdon Catholic, they should focus on the defense, as both sides have conceded nearly the same amount of goals they have netted in, resulting in a poor goal difference – a vital aspect going into the season.
Group D:
In group ‘D’, St. Paul and ESIC lead the charge with 7 points apiece from their respective three matches. St. Paul won twice and drew against Goans S.A in the three matches they have played in this term. Meanwhile, Spartan Academy are on four points with 1 win, 1 loss and 1, whereas Goregaon F.C, Mumbai Warriors u-19 are held at 1 point each and Miner’s are held at 3 points.Indian Culture League (B) are yet to open their points tally for the current campaign, while Goans S.A have a solitary point from their three matches; drawing their match vs. St. Paul’s and suffering defeats to the hands of Spartan Academy and ESIC.
Group E:
The story of group ‘E’ is a bit scattered, with the gap between the top and bottom hugely contrasting; with 2 points separating 4 teams after round two of matches. Mumbai FC u-17 and PIFA Colaba u-19 are the two leading marksmen with 6 and 5 points respectively and not trailing behind are Somaiya Vidyavihar and Young Guns on 4 points each. With three sides yet to open their account for the season, Byculla United, Desperados and Alphonso Academy. With 1 point from two matches, Juhu Beach United sits just above the danger zone.
Group F:
In group ‘F’, GM Police currently leads the line with 6 points from three matches but with a poor goal-difference of -1, as a result of a 3-0 loss to Malvani FC. Closely followed are Sunday Boys on 5 points, whereas Vintage Dahisar United and Bombay Gymkhana Colts are a point behind on 4 each. The scene of Catholic Gymkhana is troublesome as they have 3 losses from 3 matches so far and have a goal difference of -4. Dhobitalao Young Boys are also without a win, but with just one game played, the team has ample to improve upon with time remaining to turn their season around. Meanwhile, Millwall F.C are yet to kickstart their campaign, and might phase a tough time around if they are to qualify for the next round.
