WIFA fines TDFA Rs 2 lakhs; imposes 5 year ban of 5 players for indiscipline

Mumbai, May 14: The Western Indian Football Association (WIFA) has imposed severe sanctions on TDFA (Thane District Football Association) and eight women players for their irregularities, including improper conduct by five of the players during the recently concluded Maharashtra State (WIFA) Inter-District Women’s Football Championship, hosted by MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association), here, in Mumbai.

TDFA having fielded eight players not registered with the association and without getting the necessary Transfer/Loan for the players were fined Rs 2 lakhs. The TDFA has also been issued a show cause notice asking them to explain as to why no further action should be taken against the association.

Five players namely – Pooja Morey, Snehal Manchkar, Deepika Masurkar, Surbhi Manjrekar and Namrata Thakur, have all been banned, with immediate effect, for five years from participating in any football related activity. It was observed that these five players were not registered with TDFA and had represented Thane District in the tournament without the proper Loan/Transfer of the players. It was also reported that they had resorted to violent behaviour and had prevented the organizers from playing the match Group-D League between Nagpur and Dhule at the Karnatak SA ground on May 2, 2016.

Three other players – Shruti Nair, Jheel Thakkar and Akshya Venkatgiri, all registered with districts, other than TDFA still played for Thane District and they have been banned from all football activity for a period of one year.

Meanwhile, Thane District coach Thomas Castelino who failed to control the players and stop them from disrupting the match and in addition joined them in stopping the match on 2nd May 2016 at KSA ground has been banned from all football activity for a period of two years.

The Disciplinary Committee, which met here recently, thoroughly examined the report of the Match Commissioner, Shri Rajendra Sawant, and unanimously decided that such kind of irregularity and serious indiscipline and misconduct on part of the players had to be punished. Shri Abdul Siddiqui, Hon. Secretary, Thane District Football Association, was present at the meeting.
